2.3.1.2.4. ON Core principal secondary

When deploying an OpenNAC Enterprise farm with principal-worker replication, some scenarios can require a secondary ON Core which will assume the role of principal server in case of unavailability of the primary ON Core server.

2.3.1.2.4.1. How it works

  • This server is configured as a replication principal, with a few differences.

  • It also is configured as a replication worker, like other normal worker servers.

  • The worker updates received from the main principal will be replicated to workers configured to replicate from the secondary ON Core.

  • In the case of the primary ON Core becoming offline, the worker servers can be reconfigured to replicate from the secondary ON Core.

  • A greater fault tolerance, faster failover, and better load distribution between principals can be achieved when half of the farm’s workers replicates from the primary ON Core and the other half replicates from the secondary ON Core.

  • Since this setup configuration is not an automatic clustering solution, the failover/switchover of the farm replication requires manual intervention.

2.3.1.2.4.2. Configuration

As the ON Core Secondary will have the same behavior as an ON Core Worker, perform the following configuration steps described on the ON Core Worker section.
